Our fourth hike of the season kicked off with beautiful, sunny weather and plenty of elevated vibes. We had nearly 20 people and 2 dogs in attendance for our July hike, sponsored by Lotus Medical. Lotus has supported Colorado patients as a medical dispensary in downtown Denver for more than a decade.

The Fossil Creek trail is a nice, easy trail that winds its way across the Cathy Fromme Prairie Natural Area in Fort Collins. The trail is paved, allowing for greater access to the natural area, as well as making it easier for hike attendees to casually stroll and enjoy conversations and elevations during the hike.

After a few brief announcements and a reminder about the legality of public consumption of cannabis in Colorado, the crew headed up the trail, heading Northwest from the Shields Street trailhead.

While the trail is paved, due to the prairie nature of the hike, there is very little shade along the 2.5-mile trail. The group made use of sporadic benches for smoke breaks as well as to give water to the dogs who enjoyed the small amount of shade. One attendee even brought an umbrella, a genius idea for locking sun, rain, and helping block the wind while firing up a bowl.

As the crew made its way to the halfway marker, we stopped under the only tunnel along the trail for a shaded water break. Many took the opportunity to roll up a joint or a blunt before continuing along.

Once the crew reached the far Northwest point of the trail, we turned around and headed back to the trailhead. While a few people turned around before reaching the tunnel, the remaining group was able to snap a group picture before turning back. The way back allowed hikers to take pictures and videos of sights they’d seen on the way, or to take in the sights after taking photos and videos during the first half of the hike.

This hike welcomed attendees new and old, from all around the country and state of Colorado. It also served as a reminder to make sure that you have enough water and sun protection for your animals as well as yourself.

Our next event is our first backpacking trip, July 19th-21st. More information can be found on the plan. Our next hike is August 10th near Golden. More details can be found at the hike plan page. Make sure to check out the plan and RSVP before our third hike fills up!

And don’t forget about our third annual Summer Camp in August. Join us for cannabis-friendly campouts throughout the summer by requesting your invite before the events fill up!

Happy CannaVenturing!

Much love,
